An artist's invoice should include: your name and contact details, an invoice number and date, the buyer's name and contact details, the artwork's title, medium, dimensions and year, the price, any deposit already paid, sales tax if it applies, shipping or installation, the total due, the due date, how to pay, and a line stating that you keep the copyright.

A note on sales tax

Whether you must collect sales tax on art depends on your state and how and where you sell (studio, fair, online, out of state). Many states require a seller's permit even for occasional sales at fairs. Check your state revenue department's guidance or ask a tax professional. This guide is not tax advice.
